Patient: Paddington Bear is a 2-year-old, 11-pound Coton de Tulear
Diagnosis: Missing both front paws
Type of Device: Two Prostheses
Case Study: Paddington Bear was rescued after sustaining frost bite on both his front paws. He underwent surgery to pull the carpal pads over the bottom of his stumps to help protect them. As he recovered from the surgery and he started to grow, he was experiencing more mobility issues.
His family contacted My Pet’s Brace to have Paddington evaluated for two front leg prosthetic devices. It was determined that Paddington was a good candidate as both legs had enough residual limb to suspend each device. After the casting of his limbs and the fabrication of his devices, Paddington was fit with his prostheses in July of 2020. The devices protect the distal ends of his limb, provide stability and correct the height discrepancy.
Paddington Bear has been wearing his prostheses for over a year and is thriving. He wears them 8-10 hours a day and they help him live an active full life. He enjoys going for walks and playing with his siblings. He’s fast and on the move!
