Patient: Abby is a 10-year-old, 45-pound German shepherd
Diagnosis: Right hind CCL tear
Type Of Device: Stifle brace
Case Report: In the summer of 2021, Abby was playing with the other family dog and started limping on her right rear leg. Abby’s veterinarian diagnosed her with a CCL tear and recommended a surgical repair or a custom leg brace from My Pet’s Brace. After deliberating, Abby’s family decided to move forward with a brace.
Abby was able to visit our Morgantown, PA facility for the casting of her leg and the fitting of her brace. The custom hot pink stifle brace was fabricated with a co-polymer shell lined with foam, an anterior knee strap to prevent the tibial thrust and a Suspension Sleeve that wraps around the ankle to stop the brace from slipping.
There was a gradual break-in process when Abby first received the brace. She started wearing the brace for only a few hours a day and then increased to 10-12 hours a day. After wearing the brace for eight months, Abby is now fully weight-bearing on her right hind leg and no longer wears her brace.
Her family said, “I can’t thank everyone at your office enough for getting Abby back to 100% after her ACL tear. Abby never had any problems wearing her brace and after 8 months she is running around as though she never had an injury to that knee. As a matter of fact, we just got a new puppy and Abby has turned into the perfect playmate for her new brother. She is running and jumping and enjoying life.”
